Unable To Send E-mail

If you are unable to send e-mail through your domain's SMTP server, it may be that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) has blocked Port 25 in an effort to curtail spamming. You can check to see if the port has been blocked by following these steps:

1. Go to MS-DOS command prompt (in Windows XP go to Start > Run, type "cmd", and hit enter).

2. Type "telnet mail.yourdomain.com 25" (be sure to enter your own domain).

3. Hit enter and let it run (it may take a few seconds).

If you get a message that the connection failed on port 25, it means that your ISP has blocked the port. If that is the case, try the following:

1. Ask your ISP to unblock Port 25.

2. Try using Port 587 by appending :587 to the SMTP server name, as in the following example:

mail.yourdomain.com:587

3. Use your ISP's SMTP server to send e-mail.
