Shell Access

In most cases, it is not necessary to have shell access to your virtual server. Almost everything can be done through cPanel and a good FTP client (we use and recommend Cute FTP 6.0 Professional).

Having said that, we are allowing customers on our Pitt Space server to have SSH (secure shell) access on a trial basis, but please don't use shell access unless you have a good working knowledge of Linux. If there are problems caused by shell access, it may result in the immediate termination of the account causing the problems.

For SSH access, you may want to download PuTTY, a free telnet/SSH client. The IP address is 69.56.183.114, make sure that SSH is selected and, when prompted, enter your username and password.
